Local Resources
This list will continuously be updated and is non-comprehensive. If I’ve written details about a practitioner, I’ve met them. All (or most) of the practioners have been recommended by other birth workers. If you want more information, let’s talk.
Let me know if you’d like me to add any other topics, specific providers, etc.
Education
-
Ashley Makan teaches The Mind Body Birth. Ashley explores early development, attachment, and bonding in a very digestable way. I have attended and I highly recommend it!
Julie Byers teaches Mindful Birth, Blissborn (Self-hypnosis and childbirth class), and more.
Dana Patterson teaches Evidence Based Birth, and Spinning Babies
-
Intentional Birth-includes groundbreaking advocacy information (how to navigate the medical system and communicate for the birth you want). Purchasing this as an add-on through me saves you $75. Here are 3 youTube videos with extra information about this course (in order of depth discussed): Video 1, Video 2, Video 3.
I haven't taken either of these next two, but I generally like the philosophies of the people behind them:
Rooted Birth-an online class created by local midwives
Indie Birth-a pay-what-you-can course
-
The VBAC Link offers VBAC parent and doula education courses (which I took and am certified in). They also have a podcast with birth stories around VBAC and cesarean, AND they have a thriving Facebook community.
ICAN (International Cesarean Awareness Network) has a local chapter in the Upstate. We meet on the 3rd Thursday of the month at The Doula Group office in Greenville.
BODY WORK
-
-
The Body Ready Method is a newer method of birth preparation in the body as developed and taught by Lindsay McCoy and Lauren Ohayan (both exercise physiologists with various certifications and trainings between them).
Ashley Makan is a Body Ready Method Pro, which means she's certified to provide personal assessment on how your body is moving. After an assessment, she gives you resources and exercises to help shift your alignment to be better stacked and prepared for birth.
