Who they are:

Meredith and Alicia. Two friends, longtime doulas, mothers, movers and shakers in birth work.

What they do:

They host an online childbirth education course (with bimonthly video support). Because of the life-changing information (especially about advocacy), I've chosen to include and require my clients to take this course.

They also teach birth professionals a better way. They teach professional cohorts, travel to each advocacy retreats, and host an online community for birth workers (I've done/still do all three).

Why they're a big deal:

I trained as a doula in 2020 with DONA International. It was a weekend training with lots of good information, but I was nowhere near ready to start my business, or truly prepare clients for the kind of birth they wanted. I knew how to comfort, squeeze hips, and the stages of labor. Basic, must-know information-yes. Life-changing, ground-breaking information-absolutely not.

I enrolled in Intentional Birth Pro-a doula training with Meredith and Alicia. In short, I learned about physiologic birth, advocacy, how to run a business, and how to truly help my clients have the empowering, life-changing experiences they're looking for.

Intentional Birth Parent Course (childbirth education class):

-Physiology-rather than a focus on natural, medicated, or unmedicated, you'll learn about how to support physiology. You learn what physiologic birth looks and sounds like, and how to support it-even when using tools/interventions

-Interventions-you will learn about most interventions that you'll come across. The best part is that Meredith and Alicia explain them as tools. Not good or bad, just tools available to use

-ADVOCACY-I used to go into the hospital like I was preparing for battle. Now I have communication tools (that we role-play) to simply better communicate what my clients want

-Movement-Meredith is a movement specialist and teaches about movement in pregnancy (I also assess your body in person and help with alignment and movement prenatally and in birth)

-Birth values-through the videos, workbook, and our prenatals, you'll uncover your top values, then build a birth plan from there.

This is just a tiny snippet. In truth, Meredith and Alicia have profoundly changed my work. They've filled major holes in my education, and I can see the change in how I doula.
